Complaint Submission Form

You can help us achieve our goals by reporting excessive dust, odors, smoke or other air contaminants.  California Health and Safety Code Section 41700 states that “no person can discharge air contaminants that cause injury, nuisance or annoyance to any considerable number of persons or the public, or discharge air contaminants that endanger the comfort, health or safety of such persons.” If District rules are violated by a person or business, Yolo-Solano AQMD may pursue enforcement action. Our primary objective is to eliminate the nuisance and protect our air quality.

Alternately, you can call the District at (530) 757-3650 during business hours to file a verbal complaint. Please be ready to provide the time, date, nature and location (as specific as possible) of the incident.

How Does the District Investigate Complaints?

Complaint information is forwarded to District compliance staff for investigation and potential enforcement action. If the District finds a violation occurred, enforcement action – including corrective action, citations or both – may follow. If the District determines there was not an enforceable violation or that there is not enough evidence to pursue enforcement, staff will work with the parties in hopes of alleviating the issue.

While we do request complainants to submit their own contact information, the source of the complaint remains confidential.

What About Smoking Vehicles?

The District cannot enforce smoking vehicle violations. The state has jurisdiction over mobile sources. To report a smoking vehicle, call 1 800-END-SMOG, text #SMOG, or visit www.arb.ca.gov/enf/complaints/smoke.htm

What About Smoke from Fireplaces or Fire Pits?

Burning wood in fireplaces, wood stoves and fire pits is legal in Yolo-Solano. Through our Don’t Light Tonight program, we encourage voluntary participation in no-burn days during the winter where air quality is forecast to be poor.
